2015 Copa America - Will Messi break the International Jinx this time and win a cup with Argentina ?

The 2015 Copa América is the 44th edition of the Copa América, the main international football tournament for national teams in South America, and currently taking place in Chile between the dates of 11 June to 4 July 2015 . The competition will be organized by CONMEBOL, South America's football governing body.

Uruguay are the defending champions. Twelve teams will compete, the ten members of CONMEBOL and two guests from CONCACAF – Mexico and Jamaica, the latter of which will compete in Copa América for the first time. The winner of the tournament, or the best placed CONMEBOL team if Mexico or Jamaica win the tournament, will qualify for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.

The contenders-
Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay are the favourites to win it all but you cannot rule out upstarts Colombia and host nation Chile. Defending champions Uruguay stunned host nation Argentina to win the last Copa America tournament back in 2011 and we will get another shock in Chile? Football giants Brazil and Argentine will fancy their chances and Brazil has won four of the last six tournaments as they've beaten Argentina twice in the last three finals. Expect a flare works between these bitter rivals at some point during the knockout stages.

History-
To celebrate the centenary of its independence on 9 July 1816 (consequence of the May Revolution or Semana de Mayo in 1910), Argentina organized a tournament of 2 to 17 July 1916 with Chile, Uruguay and Brazil.
This Campeonato Sudamericano of Selecciones (South American Championship of Nations) is the first edition of what is now known as the "Copa América".

Given the success of the tournament, a member of the Federation Uruguayan Hector Gomez Rivadavia, proposed the creation of a confederation associations from Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay, and on July 9, the anniversary of the independence of Argentina, CONMEBOL was founded.

CONMEBOL countries are : Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.

From 1945, the competition then enters a period of great upheaval. The league is not played on a regular basis and many editions are called unofficial, not being considered official until much later by CONMEBOL.

New organization : the competition resumed in 1975 and is officially named "Copa América". The tournament did not then host all matches are played throughout the year in each country. Nine teams participating in the group stage and the champion being directly qualified for the semi-finals. This system lasted until 1987.

The current tournament format involves twelve teams competing at venues in a host nation over a period of about a month. The confederation has only ten members, so national teams from other FIFA confederations are invited to fill the other 2 places; Costa Rica, Mexico and the United States have been regular since being invited for the first time in 1993.
